Violent Crime Continues to Rise in New Orleans

By C. White

New Orleans, has always had its issues with crime, but, lately, things seem to have hit a zenith. Recently, carjacking and robbery have started to become a major problem in New Orleans.

There was a carjacking in New Orleans that caused the death of a 73-year-old woman. This woman was driving her vehicle and stopped near a road. Four teenagers beat and pepper-sprayed the woman and took her out of the driver’s seat. This woman was stuck on the seatbelt, hanging out of the car, and unable to move. Instead of the teens helping her out, they drove over five miles with this elderly woman hanging out of the car. This caused the woman’s arm to come off, later killing her due to the amount of blood loss.

“I love this city, I just hate the way these crazy people act. How hard is it to just keep your hands off someone?” A citizen of New Orleans by the name of James Harry Jr. said.

New Orleans overall is a great place to visit, and, for many, to live. Crime, however, has some revaluating living in New Orleans. For many, home means safety. Many citizens of the city are not feeling safe at present.
